Q: What best describes your Positive Psychology journey?

I’m a teacher and teacher educator who has always believed in the importance of putting people first and explicitly teaching the social and emotional skills needed to navigate life. Before finishing my Masters of Applied Positive Psychology and Post Graduate Diploma in Positive Organizational Psychology and Leadership, I found it a bit difficult to convince others of the importance of community, self-awareness, and being aware of the impact you have and want to have on the world.
Although this was always intuitive to me, I think that it sometimes came off as ‘woo-woo’ to people considering these things for the first time. The programs at The School of Positive Psychology taught me the science behind well-being and that made my persuasive argument much stronger. Of course, that was all before 2020!

Q: Did you see any differences after learning Positive Psychology?

2020 made the job of convincing others of the importance of well-being very easy. Now, what I find is that people need tools to help them build their own well-being. From what I learnt in these Positive Psychology programs, I now have the skills, knowledge and tool-kits to help others!
Well-being, connection and social-emotional learning have always been a thread in my work, and I am able to slip in those tools and concepts I have learnt through Positive Psychology programmes whenever I have the opportunity to. Now, I have both the confidence and the skills to say on well-being, “This is important. Here’s why and here’s how you do this for yourself, your workplace, your family, your community.”
