Art Therapy Introduction + Child Psychology Course Preview

Art Therapy Introduction + Child Psychology Course Preview

“Since human society has existed the arts have helped man to reconcile the eternal conflict between the individual’s instinctual urges and the demands of society. Thus, all art is therapeutic in the broadest sense of the word.”
Edith Kramer, Art Therapy pioneer

In recent years, art therapy has gained traction and recognition as a viable therapeutic modality. It is an established form of psychotherapy delivered by trained art therapists or art psychotherapists.
Art therapy is designed to help anyone, including those whose life has been affected by adverse experiences, illness or disability. It is a holistic form of therapy that attends to the emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual well-being of the individual. Through therapeutic art-making, one’s social, emotional and mental health needs can be supported.
Art therapy works especially well for individuals who are pre-verbal, non-verbal, or not verbally inclined. This would include the neurodiverse population, such as individuals diagnosed with ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and global developmental delay, whereby they often find it difficult to find the right words to express what they truly feel.
This unique modality also works well for individuals who are suffering PTSD, and are unable to – or simply refuse to – talk about traumatic experiences. Additionally, the mental health of people who are dealing with addictions, grief, dementia, eating disorders and physical illness can be impoved through Art Therapy.
At this Child Psychology talk, learn:
  1. The foundation of Art Therapy
  2. How Art Therapy is effective
  3. Different techniques Art Therapists use to support clients
Participants will experience a simple hands-on art directive to gain a preliminary understanding of how art therapists utilise the art-making process to achieve therapeutic goals. All art materials will be provided, and no prior art-making experience is required to participate in this interactive session.
The talk will be followed by the Course Preview of Child Psychology programmes.
What is the course preview about?
This is an opportunity for anyone interested in TSPP’s courses to learn more about the course structure, career pathways and entry requirements.
After a presentation by our consultant, attendees will be able to participate in a Q&A session, and learn more about admissions procedures.
