This professional certificate will equip you with a deeper understanding of how therapeutic art can be a means of engaging clients in expression and forming a therapeutic alliance.

Through exploration of the 7 psychological functions of art, you can learn how the application of art can be used in clinical work to help mediate psychological conditions and assuage anxieties.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge, comprehension and application of:

Psychological functions of creative art
Therapeutic qualities of creative art and art materials
Creative Arts in clinical work
Therapeutic art coaching
Self-care through creative art making
Applications of creative art in group and individual clinical sessions

COURSE MODULES

Clinical Applications of Art in Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is the general term for interpersonal and relational intervention of treating mental and emotional disorders by engaging clients to vocalize their condition and related issues with a mental health professional.

Psychotherapists employ a range of techniques focusing on experiential relationship building, communication and behaviour modification. Therapeutic art can be one of the means to engage clients in expression and forming a therapeutic alliance, and there can be many applications of art in psychotherapy that allows for a more in-depth interaction and exchange between the psychotherapist and clients.

COURSE DURATION

3 months, part time

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Certificate in Introduction to Art Therapy from TSPP, and
Minimum 1 GCE ‘O’ Level credit, or
A pass for ITE NITEC course in any field, or
Mature candidates (≥ 30 years old with 8 years work experience)

English language requirement:

Pass in GCE ‘O’ Level English Language, or
Pass in any GCE ‘A’ Level subject conducted in English, or
IELTS 5.5, or
TOEFL (Internet Based) 59, or
Pearson PTE Academic 52
